The west region’s men’s competition will conclude the qualifying round for the NCAA Championship Meet. While many things went the way they were expected there where also some disappointments and big accomplishments.

While 8 seniors will extend their final season with a trip to Eugene there are a couple unexpected seniors that won’t be making the trip. Chris Pillow who has had a great season with a great finish at USA indoors was unable to clear a bar, along with the former indoor NCAA Champion Andrew Irwin.

The big match up going into Oregon will be between Jake Blankenship of Tennessee and Shawn Barber of Akron. Both of these guys have vaulted themselves on the world stage with both jumping over 19 feet this year. During the indoor national meet both of these guys jumped over 19 feet while they were fighting for the win. Barber came away with that win so Blankenship will be fighting to not let him repeat.

Multiple schools were able to qualify more than one athlete for the finals. Connecticut, Tennessee, Texas A&M,  and Kansas all showing how strong of a Pole Vault school they are.

If the weather cooperates we are likely to see another great NCAA Men’s competition on June 10th in Eugene Oregon. Congratulations to those who qualified. Safe travels to Eugene and we will see you in a couple weeks.
